2024 Summer Company Dancer Positions

Frog in Hand auditions are here!

We are looking for dancers to join our 2024 Summer Company.

About

The Summer Company is a diverse ensemble of artists who join together to train, create and perform across the GTA. Artists must be available from the end of May - through to the end of July 2024 for full-time work.
*The Summer Company is contingent on funding results (this initiative is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program).

We are seeking:

  • Physically and emotionally imaginative folks between the age of 19-30

  • Highly skilled dancers with a professional practice, versed in dance techniques

  • Artists skilled at character development and storytelling

  • Folks who love collaborative process, and multidisciplinary work

  • Folks with artistic merit (technical ability, dynamic range), capacity for non-verbal storytelling, interest/ability to work within community settings. Beyond this, we take into account potential casting for specific repertoire, and we are seeking to create a strong team of individuals who we think will work well together intensively over the full summer season. We always cherish strong collaborators - dancers with ideas, listening skills, empathy, and a care-centred approach.

To be eligible, participants MUST:

  1. Be under 30 at the time of the program start, which is tentatively scheduled on March 29th. The start date is subject to change. This means to be eligible any candidate must be 29 or under on March 29th, 2024. If you turn 30 after the start date, you're eligible.

  2. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment

  3. Have a valid SIN number, and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  4. Be willing and able to travel to work in Mississauga.

To submit an application, please fill out our Google Form (link above).

EQUITY

We encourage applicants to self-identify if they are part of an equity deserving group.

Frog in Hand prioritizes Mississauga-based artists, or folks with roots and practices based here.
Frog in Hand is committed to workplace health and safety. All workers have the right to: know about work conditions, refuse unsafe work, and participate in health and safety discussions.

Vaccination is highly recommended but is not required to work with Frog in Hand because we are considered to be in a "post pandemic" environment. Our policies around protecting workers still remain: masking, testing, and staying at home if sick - but we don't need vaccination as a requirement to be an employee at this time. When working with immunocompromised people, there may be a mandatory masking policy if decided by Frog in Hand staff. This policy can be revisited as health conditions evolve.

If we can make this application process more accessible to you, please email us at froginhand@gmail.com

AUDITIONS

Auditions will be held in Mississauga on March 9th, 2024 with callbacks on March 10th, 2024.

Land Acknowledgement

We are privileged to work, live and play on the traditional territories of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples - Treaty 13A territory. This territory is included in the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which is an agreement to peaceably share and care for the land and its resources. We understand the standard of living we enjoy here in Canada is a result of thousands of years of stewardship by the original inhabitants and the inequitable taking of the land from them. We acknowledge that in order to have reconciliation, we must first understand truth; we commit to move forward in an effort to achieve both. Our CoFounders, Colleen and Noelle, are settlers from Welsh, Ukrainian and English roots, and their heritage is but one piece of the tapestry that is Frog in Hand. Frog in Hand is a collective of artists with diverse backgrounds and histories, heritages and family stories of their own.

We are all Treaty People. On September 30th each year we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Every day we are mindful of broken covenants and we strive to make this right. We commit to collaboration based on the foundational assumption that Indigenous Peoples have the power, strength, and competency to develop culturally specific strategies for their communities. We are dedicated to honoring Indigenous self-determination, history, and culture, and are committed to moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation and respect with all First Nation, Metis and Inuit people.
