STAGEHAND/STAGE PRODUCTION WORKER (SPW)
The stage production worker (SPW) is an opportunity to develop skills and be mentored in all aspects of pre/post-production with a small not-for-profit arts organization. The ideal candidate will be passionate about design, technical direction, arts administration, production, and post-production. This position is an entry-level role, ideal for a candidate who is passionate about the arts but not ready to specialize; the SPW will be responsible for assisting FH's various departments: lighting, sound, stage management, costume, publicity, and administration. The SPW's daily tasks will be tailored to suit their skill set, goals, Company needs, repertoire, production, and maintenance needs. The SPW will develop a particularly diverse portfolio of career-related experience in the arts and culture sector as they lend a hand where needed, working on a variety of productions and behind the scenes.
SPW ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Work alongside the team to plan, run and strike performances (be mentored to crew a show, run lighting, sound, special effects, build sets, organize and maintain props etc.).

Collaborate with wardrobe department: assist with remounts of existing repertoire and new works (simple costume mending and maintenance, pulling from stock, doing returns, attend fittings to assist and record measurements, attend costume parades, take notes on changes and alterations, sew labels into costumes).

Meet with the production team to discuss load-in and strikes, attend all dress and tech rehearsals.

Crew and assist with show running for performances across multiple departments as stagehand.

Steam and wash costumes over show runs.

Assist props persons and set builders to assemble, repair, place, build and oversee props.

Distribute scripts and notes to performers; keep detailed documentation by filming rehearsals and uploading to the database.

Rig, place, move and dismantle sets, backdrops, scenery and other stage equipment.

Clean, maintain, transport and store costumes.

Provide support to the artistic director, such as preparing schedules, setting up equipment.
SPW SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

ASSISTANT COSTUME DESIGNER (ACD)
The Assistant Costume Designer (ACD) is an opportunity for a professional person under the age of 30 to develop skills and be mentored in wardrobe, costume design and pre/post-production with Frog in Hand, a small not-for-profit arts organization based in Mississauga. The ideal candidate will be passionate about costuming, technical direction, arts administration, production planning and post-production activities. The candidate will work alongside Frog in Hand’s 2023 Summer Company with a wide variety of tasks. This is a position for someone who ideally has a few years of experience working in the industry and is looking for a role with some responsibility. The ACD will need to be a strong independent worker with excellent initiative.
ACD ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Study FH summer season and repertoire, taking note of costuming needs.

Consult with Production Assistant and production calendar to collaborate on critical path/due dates

Meet with FH Director of Visual Design (Noelle Hamlyn), designers, rehearsal director and other production team members to assist with costuming and wardrobe for remounts of existing repertoire

Design costumes for new small-scale works and works in process under the mentorship of Noelle Hamlyn and FH creative team. Create costume sketches as necessary for the production team to review during the design process

Attend fittings to assist and record measurements

Create FH measurement database and maintain wardrobe paperwork

Assist in the selection and purchasing of fabric, assist with fabric modifications
-
Assist in the design or selection of accessories
-
Assist with purchasing and altering costumes

Assist in designing hairstyles, headwear, footwear, and special makeups
-
Attend costume parades and all dress and tech rehearsals with the costume designer to take notes on changes and alterations

Assist in creating a wardrobe plot so that costumes may be checked in and out each day. Create a way to track multiple costume pieces

Create and sew labels into costumes

Complete a full costume inventory over time with Summer Company, provide maintenance to costume stock as needed
-
Meet with the costume designer, creative teams, and production assistant to discuss load-in and strikes. Make note of which pieces need to be sent to dry cleaning, which will return to stock, and assist in coordinating the return of any borrowed or rented costumes

Assist with quick changes and show running for performances

ACD SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and success working in a progressive, collaborative artistic environment

High level training and experience in costume design, textiles, sewing and construction/pattern drafting

Experience working in a fast-paced theatre environment
